The best noise-cancelling headphones of 2026, tested on a 14-hour flight

sitecraftersasia2 min read

Active noise cancelling has improved more in the last two years than in the five before it. To find out which headphones actually deliver, we took five popular pairs on a 14-hour flight, measured cabin noise with a calibrated microphone inside a test head, and wore each pair for at least two hours.

How we tested

  • Cabin noise measured at 82–85 dB(A) during cruise, recorded with and without each headset
  • Battery drained from 100% with ANC on and music at 60% volume
  • Comfort scored by three testers with different head sizes and glasses
  • Call quality tested in a busy terminal over Wi-Fi calling

Best overall: Sonara H900

The H900 removed an average of 31 dB across the low-frequency engine drone — the most of any pair we tested — and its adaptive mode never produced the pressure feeling some listeners dislike. After 14 hours it still had 58% battery left. The fold-flat design fits a laptop bag, and multipoint means it switches between phone and laptop without re-pairing.

Best earbuds: Sonara Buds Pro 2

If you would rather not carry over-ears, the Buds Pro 2 came within 4 dB of the H900 with the medium foam tips. Eight hours per charge is enough for most flights, and the case adds three more top-ups.

What to look for

  • Adaptive ANC that adjusts to fit and environment — fixed ANC leaks more when you move
  • At least 30 hours of ANC-on battery for long-haul travel
  • Multipoint Bluetooth if you switch between phone and laptop
  • Replaceable ear pads — they are the first thing to wear out

The H900 is the first pair we have tested that made a long-haul flight feel genuinely quiet.
